Da Pinoy Chronicle: On The Joke Called ‘Canonisation’

What is it folks? Ah yes the canonisation of Pedro Calungsod will begin tomorrow. As usual numerous ‘devout’ Filipino Catholics are celebrating about the canonisation of Calungsod tomorrow.

The atmosphere of the streets again will become fiestas. The Catholic Church here had raised 60 million pesos just for the sake of celebration. How ‘inspiring’ is blessed Pedro Calungsod to the Filipino Catholics.

First of all who the fuck is Pedro Calungsod? He is rather obscure and i only read a little of him last year when i am browsing for the Filipino fanatic este saint Lorenzo Ruiz, who was executed by the Japanese as the Tokugawa Shogunate prohibited Christianity because of the influence of the Dominicans and the Jesuits on the local daimyos before Ieyasu took power after the Battle of Sekigahara.

No legitimate image of him even exists, in fact the face was copied at some PBA player that i don’t know the name. What makes him a saint.? Ah yes, he was sent as an assistant of the missionaries on their expedition at Marianas Islands. Pedro and the missionaries tried to convert the Chamorro people to Christianity.

In 1672, a certain individual had spread rumours about the baptismal water was poisonous. Because the people were also superstitious at that time, they believed the story and saw the missionaries as hostile foreigners.

In their search for a runaway companion named Esteban, Calungsod and San Vitores came to the village of TumonGuam on 2 April 1672. There they learnt that the wife of the village chief Matapang gave birth to a daughter, and they immediately went to baptise the child.

Influenced by the calumnies of Choco, the chief strongly opposed to give Mata’pang some time to calm down, the missionaries gathered the children and some adults of the village at the nearby shore and started chanting with them the tenets of the Catholic religion. They invited Mata’pang to join them, but he shouted back that he was angry with God and was fed up with Christian teachings.

When Mata’pang learnt of his daughter’s baptism, he became even more furious. He violently hurled spears first at Pedro, who was able to dodge the spears. Witnesses claim that Calungsod could have escaped the attack, but did not want to leave San Vitores alone.

Those who knew Calungsod personally meanwhile believed that he could have defeated the aggressors with weapons; San Vitores however banned his companions to carry arms.

Calungsod was hit in the chest by a spear and he fell to the ground, then Hirao immediately charged towards him and finished him off with machete blow to the head. San Vitores absolved Calungsod before he too was killed.

So that is the story of your beloved Pedro Calungsod. It was a stupid excuse and the Filipinos still insist to proclaim him as saint. It was still a joke. Religious persecution is somewhat barbaric but forcing also your distorted belief also to other people is barbaric.

Canonisation of Pedro and Lorenzo is nothing but a joke and Filipinos are proud of it. Did we ran out of things to be proud of? what will happen after that? Will it conclude that Filipinos are religious? Yeah so religious that they detest critical thinking altogether. They are also submissive to authority although the teachings of the authority is twisted.

What about miracles? Miracles are not true, there is a psychological definition for that. It was called confirmation bias. Apologists like to distort facts and interpret it as miracles. Some filipinos are proud because we lead the world in belief in a deity.

I dismissed the event as a joke and always be a joke for eternity. I think of certain persons who deserve canonisation than this arse. Yes Pedro Palaez, the leader of the Los Hijos Del Pais who championed Philippine autonomy and the rights of the native priests. I also forgot the GOMBURZA deserves it even though they were never involved in the coup d etat in 1872.

They will also spend 60 million of the taxpayer’s money for this. What a complete joke. That 60 million can start a soup kitchen. 60 million pesos for nothing. It is just a complete show off of Filipino pride. Oh men, i am losing respect to the Church everyday.

The people are celebrating in the streets with the 60 million pesos for one day tomorrow and after that now what? Did our society improved because of that? People will complain they they have no money to spend because of the yesterday’s celebration.

I will jump off the cliff if Cory and Kris Aquino will become saints. Gulp, Cory will become a saint? What the fuck happened to society? Our society is always repeating the same cycle of stupidity for the past 26 years.

Remember this, God is not great and everything is open to question even religion. I hate the belief but not the believers.
