Da Pinoy Chronicle: Band Reviews: The Killers

Folks, let’s divert our attention from the laughable society that we lvied in into something more less laughable. I am now introducing my segment band reviews, where I am reviewing the musical styles of the band the their songs. Our first feature is the American rock band known as the Killers.

Well if you are familiar of the song “Mr.Brightside”, you can remember this band. By the way, I am reviewing all the bands irregardless of their genres, I might do a review of Maroon 5, Nickelback or even Coldplay in the near future.

I find the current music scene as somewhat terrible in my view. For example Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber and other pop singers out there. For the most part, this band alongside the others are very hard to find and they rarely chart high on Billboard.

Their songs are good. At first, they are the generic pop punk rock that was very popular during 2004-2006, but they had created their own style in the coming years. In fact, most of their songs nowadays reminded me of late 80’s and late 90’s ballad, it kinda makes me nostalgic.

The meanings of their songs are very diverse. “Mr. Brightside” was obviously about cheating, “Miss Atomic Bomb” was its sequel and “Here With Me” was a heartbroken ballad. The other songs? I have never listened to it, but by just listening to 6 songs, I have a conclusion that this band is underrated.

I recommend you to listen to this underrated band. It is worth your time and you will experience last song syndromes because of their songs. Their songs are meaningful and their later songs are kinda surreal.

In fact the music video of “Here With Me’ reminds me of Salvador Dali’s style of art and Monty Python. It was also directed by Tim Burton, the one who had directed the original Batman and Edward Scissorhands. Trust me, it is worth your time. By the way, did I mentioned that the fourth album “Battle Born” has a kick ass cover?

The song “Mr. Brightside” gives me LSS. The song is pure awesome in my point of view. Just listen to its chorus:

Jealousy, turning saints into the sea

Swimming through sick lullabies

Choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay

Destiny is calling me

Open up my eager eyes

‘Cause I’m Mr. Brightside

Miss Atomic Bomb:
Miss Atomic Bomb
Making out, we’ve got the radio on
You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone
You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone

Racing shadows in the moonlight
Through the desert on a hot night
And for a second there we’d won
Yeah, we were innocent and young

And Here With Me:

Don’t want your picture on my cell phone.

I want you here with me.

Don’t want your memory in my head, no.

I want you here with me.

Until then, I see you guys maybe later as I do a nostalgic game review from my favourite childhood video game Battle Realms. Later! I shall now post the three best songs of the Killers. Have a great weekend!
